Public Holiday Announced
The Government of Sindh has officially announced a public holiday across the province on May 1, 2026 in observance of Labour Day. The decision was confirmed through a formal notification issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department (SGA&CD).
According to the notification, all government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils operating under the administrative control of the Sindh government will remain closed on Friday, May 1. However, essential services will continue to function as usual to ensure public convenience.
The notification was issued on April 22, 2026 and has been signed by Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Hyder Shah. The move aims to honor the contributions and efforts of workers across the province, marking an important international occasion dedicated to labor rights and achievements.
Labour Day, celebrated annually on May 1, recognizes the hard work and dedication of workers and highlights the importance of fair labor practices. The announcement of a public holiday allows employees to commemorate the day and participate in related events and activities.
Sources indicate that similar holiday announcements are expected from the federal government and other provincial administrations in Pakistan, ensuring nationwide observance of Labour Day 2026.
This development is particularly significant for employees across Sindh, as it provides an opportunity to reflect on workers’ rights and the ongoing efforts to improve labor conditions in the country.
